Nancy Walsh believes in her company's product.
That's why the executive vice president of Kenco Communities lives in Wycliffe Golf & Country Club, a Kenco community that she helped to build and sell.
Walsh was working for interior designers before she joined Kenco in 1985 as a design coordinator. She said that Kenco co-founder Kenneth Endelson then asked her, in 1992, if she wanted to become the project manager at Wycliffe, which Kenco had started a few years before.
"I worked hard for many years, with many long hours. When Ken asked me if I would like to do Wycliffe, I said, 'Of course,' " Walsh said. "Kenco is a wonderful company to work for if you are a woman. You really can move far."
Walsh was so impressed with the community, west of Lake Worth, that she moved there with her husband, Sheldon.
"I love what we sell. I love our product," she said. "I have built from very high to medium (pricing), and I think our product is terrific."
However, Wycliffe was just the start for the energetic Walsh, who seems to have no problem multitasking. Nor does she intend to slow down. In addition to Wycliffe, she oversaw the development of Addison Reserve Country Club in Delray Beach, then Mirabella at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens, then The Estates at the Isles in Wellington.
"I was busy all over the place," she recalled. "I remember when we first started out with Ken, we walked in from Jog Road (for Addison Reserve) and there were mountains of earth. We were like, 'This is where this is going to be; this is where that's going to be.' And within 10 months, there it was.
"Then when you decorate the models, and it all comes together and you see the finished product, it's really wonderful. I absolutely love this business."
Now most of Walsh's time is spent at Ibis Golf & Country Club in West Palm Beach and The Oaks at Boca Raton.
Walsh is particularly excited about Ibis, which is eight miles west of Interstate 95 off Northlake Boulevard and is bordered by Grassy Waters Nature Preserve.
Kenco builds exclusively in two Ibis neighborhoods - Woodlands at the Preserve and Bent Creek.
Woodlands at the Preserve will feature 98 single-family homes, of which 55 are available - some for immediate occupancy. The homes, priced from the $600,000s, provide 2,668 to 3,734 square feet of air-conditioned living space. The deep lots overlook the preserve.
Bent Creek offers 29 residences priced from $1.35 million. These homes provide 4,070 to 5,594 square feet of air-conditioned living space as well as golf course and water views. Seven homes remain in Bent Creek.
Ibis' recreational amenities include three golf courses designed by the Nicklaus family; a 20-acre practice facility; a 50,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style clubhouse; 14 hydrogrid tennis courts; and a Tennis & Fitness Center.
"Ibis offers beautiful views and great golf," said Walsh, a native of Montreal who stays true to her Canadian roots - she likes hockey and watching "all the home programs on TV."
But don't expect to find her camped on the sofa with the remote. There's too much to do and not enough time.
"I am so used to working at a fast clip that 'sitting around' is not part of my vernacular," she said. "I am always on the go."
